Tom Wareham's marine experience spans a major portion of his life. Growing up on the water on Ohio inland lakes, Tom had his own Lyman runabout with a 10 hp Johnson, paid for with part time jobs and paper route earnings. As in Allen Jackson's song "Drive," his family gave him freedom to roam the lake and later cruised in his father's Chris Craft Sea Skiff.
A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, Tom served on the East Coast as a Boatswains mate on construction cutters. Stationed in Baltimore, he crewed on newly constructed high speed patrol cutters performing sea trials prior to their commissioning into service. During this time, Tom learned to sail and has been a Lake Erie boater over 25 years. Currently he sails out of Sandusky Bay on his Tartan 34. He holds a 100 ton Masters License, and is authorized to conduct commercial towing, He is a member of Lake Erie Tartan Sailors (LETS), is a certified Scuba Diver (SSI), and has been active in the US Power Squadron.Tom; a Marine Surveyor since 2007, graduated from Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, Florida. His formal training included Marine Surveying, Damage and Claims Surveying and Power Boat Certification. As a Surveyor, he is a Member of the Society of Marine Surveyors (SAMSŪ} as an Accredited Marine SurveyorŪ, is Standards Certified with the American Boating and Yachting Council (ABYC) and has apprenticed under the direction of local surveyors.
